Terry Sigley
Moseley prop Terry Sigley has joined Premiership side, Sale Sharks. Terry was on
a temporary arrangement with Moseley with the proviso that he be allowed to
leave only if a Premiership club offered him a greater financial package. He
started the season with Northampton as cover for Saints players away during the
World Cup and then moved back to his old club Moseley in November when that deal
finished.
Sigley he thanked Moseley for providing him with the platform from which to
return to full time professional rugby. "I will always have a soft spot for
them," he said. "I spoke to the club on Sunday and they were all very pleased
for me, it shows that Moseley must be doing something right if their players are
being picked up by Premiership clubs. If I ever left the Premiership again I
would not hesitate to come back to Moseley because they have been so good to
me."
Club Coach Ian Smith commented “While we are sorry to see Terry leave as he has
helped to create one of the club’s strongest packs in recent years, we are
fortunate that we have strength in depth now to continue the improvements this
season. We always knew that Terry could leave and thank him for the professional
manner in which he has conducted himself while here. We wish him well and he
knows the door will always be open for him at Moseley”.
Sigley is now one of a growing band of players who have furthered their careers
playing for Moseley this season. Dual registered England Academy players Jack
Forster and Jack Adams have now played the last three and two games respectively
for Premiership leader’s Gloucester 1st XV after playing nearly all of their
other games this season from Moseley. Dan Norton and Charlie Sharples have both
appeared in the successful England ’s Under 20’s squad this season also after
playing nearly all their rugby at Billesley. Scotland World Cup Prop Alasdair
Dickenson was selected for Scotland A after playing games for the club

Tommy Hayes is back
Moseley Rugby Club is pleased to announce the re-signing of experienced former
Moseley, Worcester and Bristol fly-half Tommy Hayes. The 32-year-old Cook
Islands International is available for selection for this weekend’s First
Division match at Newbury and will increase the options in the backs.
Press Release

Injury update
We suffered a number of injuries from the Saints match and a severely depleted
squad visited Exeter last Saturday with both Dan Norton and Ali James playing
out of position at wing and at full back respectively and only Gareth Taylor
providing back cover among the replacements.
However the benefit of the Gloucester arrangement came to the fore with eight
starters and one replacement having come to us via that route. Despite the
changes and the inevitable after effects of the Saints match, the team performed
creditably.
Many of the injuries should have healed so that the coaches will have a fuller
squad to select from for Saturday. Andy Binns should be back after an ankle
injury. Nathan Bressington is back in training and will be available for this
weekend. Gary Trueman will be taking a fitness test this evening after suffering
from the recent virus. Ollie Winter is back in training and could be available
within a couple of weeks. Ritchie Bignell may be another week as he still has a
twinge to his shoulder muscle injury.
Caves, Ireland, Uzoigwe are also still on the injured list.

What’s in a name? Brown or Dixon!
Last week’s news about the two new signings was correct! Between, that posting
and Saturday's game as those who have already read the match reports will have
noticed, the surname of the new flyhalf has changed!
We’re delighted to welcome a former Mini & Junior player back to the club with
the loan signing of fly half James Brown from Worcester. On his debut he
succeeded with all four attempted penalty kicks in the 12-6 win at Esher last
weekend.
Team mate Gary Trueman also made his debut last weekend as supporters will be
pleased to take a closer look at both players this Saturday against Nottingham.
10 December 2007
James Brown
Moseley's four penalties
against Esher were kicked by James Brown, who only joined late last week
when a late loan deal was struck with Worcester. Solihull born Brown, is a
former Moseley mini player, getting much-needed match practice after a long
spell out with injury. Profile

Adrian Lightowler
The club is sad to announce the retirement from rugby of Adrian
Lightowler after diagnosis of a fracture of a cervical process. In
layman’s terms he has a broken neck vertebra which was discovered after
he reported discomfort and was sent for further investigation and a
scan. Our thanks to the club’s medical team for spotting the problem
before more tragic consequences ensued.
Everyone at Moseley would wish to thank Adrian for his commitment to the
club and we hope to see him around at Billesley as he, and the club,
come to terms with his premature retirement from the game.

Matt Jones
Moseley
Rugby Club has announced that Welsh international fly-half Matt Jones
has left the club by mutual consent. Matt was half way through a
six-month contract and was in the Moseley line-up or on the bench for
all Moseley's matches so far this season. The club thanks him for his
contribution and wishes him well.
Moseley are looking at potential fly-half replacements both at home and
abroad.

Moseley Sign Terry Sigley
Experienced prop Terry Sigley
returns to Moseley today and provides important cover on both sides of the front
row. With the loan of Paul Coles to Stourbridge and the possibility that Jack
Forster, England Academy player co-registered with Moseley and Gloucester, could
be required by Gloucester in an EDF trophy game this Saturday, Sigley could go
straight into the match day squad for Saturday’s game against London Welsh. He
would provide some welcome experience in a young squad currently depleted by
injuries to several key players.
The ‘veteran’ 29 year old has racked up over 100 National Division One
appearances as well as Guinness Premiership outings for Gloucester (2004-2006 37
appearances) and Bath.
A local player, Terry learned his rugby at
Tamworth and Leicester's Academy/U21 before joining Moseley, following in
the footsteps of elder brother, Rob.
His first spell with Moseley ended in the
summer of 2002 following the uncertainty over Moseley's future and was one of
many players offered security locally when Oxford's takeover threatened at the
end of that season.

Loan Players
Speaking in the Birmingham Post today, Ian Smith said, "Moseley now have
French stand off Ludovic Mercier in their squad for Sunday's curtain
raiser at Nottingham." The article continues "The Frenchman, nicknamed
"Monsieur Points" earlier in his career, has become available as part of
the loan arrangement between Moseley and Premiership side Gloucester and
could make his debut at Meadow Lane. He is not, however, thought to be
in contention for a starting place with Matt Jones impressing in his
pre-season friendlies for his new club both with the boot and in
orchestrating the Moseley three-quarter line."

GLOUCESTER LOAN PLAYERS
The arrangement between Gloucester and Moseley provides for three
players to be loaned to Moseley from Gloucester in addition to the
availability of all England Academy players who are dual registered with
both clubs.
While there is provision for any of such loan players to be recalled to
Kingsholm , this can only be done if replacement of equal or better
capability is made available to Moseley. Both club’s appreciate there
may be some disruption during the World Cup, and that the full benefits
of this arrangement will probably be seen after then. However certainly
so far, the agreement has been beneficial to both parties
The players who could be making regular appearances this season for
Moseley as loan players include:
Mark Foster
Mark Foster, Wing, England Sevens player. Mark celebrates his
twenty-fourth birthday by playing for Moseley at Nottingham this Sunday.
He joined the Gloucester England Academy in the summer of 2002 at the
age of eighteen, progressed through the U21 ranks and put in some good
performances for the United side before his first team debut. Last
season he made 16 appearances in the Premiership for Gloucester scoring
four tries. photo profile
James Bailey
James made his debut for Moseley last weekend scoring his first try at
Billesley within 15 minutes of kick off! A chipped penalty from Matt
Jones was inch perfect and James made no mistake!
Just turned 24, James was previously a regular member of the England
U21s squad and signed for Gloucester from Bristol Shoguns in the summer
of 2004. The talented wing man scored fourteen tries in twenty-one first
team appearances for the Shoguns in the 2003/04 division one campaign.
He made his name on the sevens circuit as a dangerous finisher and
game-breaker. 40 Premiership appearances for Gloucester in the last
three seasons, 6 Tries in 20 starts for Gloucester in 2006/7.

As ND1 progressively becomes fully professional and Moseley aims for
this goal after three seasons, players not only need the ability but
also the commitment of time to this aim. We fully understand the
position of some of our stalwarts and are grateful to those that have
put in the time and effort in the past, but now need to concentrate on
family and careers. Some we won’t see again with a red and black shirt, but
some we may! Either way, they can always be sure of a good welcome at
matches. So a big ‘Thank You’ – and best wishes to………..
Daren O’Leary who is retiring from serious rugby, in order to
concentrate on his work as a Player’s Agent. He was hugely influential
in our promotion season, during which his vast experience helped to keep
the side steady under pressure.
Tommy Hayes is moving to Italy where he will play for Gran Parma.
His signing at the mid-point of the season last year gave us a boost
which undoubtedly stabilised the team in National League One.
Charlie Daniell joined us on loan five years ago, and has given
sterling service over the past seasons. Last year he had few
opportunities and he has decided to move closer to home and work, and
will be playing for Cheltenham next year.
Kevin Moran had an injury-plagued season, but nevertheless showed
his potential as a young tight-head prop of real quality. He goes back
to his native Ireland where he joins Connaught after a knee operation.
Andy Gray played very little rugby last year owing to him
starting on a new career as a fire officer. He has given long and
committed service to Moseley since joining the club from Lichfield. He
steps down and is reportedly expected to play some local junior rugby
for Bournville.
Chris Holder has played at Moseley for three seasons, during
which he has proved to be a hugely dependable member of the squad, being
versatile enough to play almost anywhere in the backs. He is believed to
be joining Cinderford.
Tom Warren’s future plans are still unclear. Apart from a brief
visit to Worcester Academy he has been at Moseley since his days in the
youngest mini group. His career over the last three years has been
plagued by injury, but at his best he could certainly be competitive at
this level. We may not have seen the last of him in red and black!
Carl Colvin has been at Moseley for seven years. Recent
fatherhood and a two year period in which he has been troubled with
injury (two groin operations) have caused him to decide to take a break
from National League rugby, although, like Tom Warren, he may yet
return. He is likely to be playing local junior rugby next year with Old
Griffinians.
Alex Hadley has a new job which is based in Wellingborough and
involves a lot of travelling. We are hoping that whatever time he has
for his rugby playing can still be with us. Alex is looking forward to
playing in the A team without the competing demands of professional
rugby and career to contend with.
To all of these, and others not named here who have
played and trained with Moseley over the years, but now move on, we say
again Thank You and good luck.

Another International beefs up the pack
Canadian International lock forward Oliver Atkinson (age 26) has joined Moseley
and beefs up the pack for next season’s campaign. Oliver, 18st
and 6’5”, has six full caps for Canada having made his debut in 2005 against
Japan.
He played for Canada in New Zealand in June of this year and has been named as a
reserve for the Canadian squad for next month’s World Cup in France. Atkinson, a
British passport holder, played 2006/07 season with French Pro2 side Stade
Bordelais (Bordeaux-Begles) and has signed an initial one year deal with the
Birmingham club.
Oliver, who went to school in Wrekin College near Telford, before moving to
Canada when he was sixteen, said “I am delighted to have the opportunity of
playing for a famous club like Moseley especially during this exciting time in
the club’s revival. Hopefully I can assist the team while developing my game
further within a professional environment”.
Head Coach Ian Smith commented “Oliver provides us with more physical presence
in the 2nd row and some interesting options and we are delighted to have him on
board. Along with the other front five recruits during the close season there
should be greater strength and competition in an area where we need to be
stronger next season”.
Atkinson joins a long list of Canadians who have played for Moseley which
includes former International captain Al Charron and recently evergreen prop
Kevin Wirachowski, inventor of the ScrumMaster scrummaging machine.

home club Darlington scoring 3 tries in their National 3 North campaign.
Dan also represented Durham in 2006/07 when they won the County
Championship Plate. He made his debut for Moseley in last weekend’s

Moseley boost squad
with Welsh tighthead Nathan Williams
Moseley have further strengthened their squad for next season by signing
Welsh Premiership player Nathan Williams. Nathan, aged 23, is a six foot
tall, 18-stone tighthead prop, who broke into the Llanelli Scarlets team
in 2003, making six appearances that season. He has since played for
Llanelli and Cardiff in the Welsh Premiership and last season made 20
appearances for Scarlets’ feeder club Narberth, winning the players'
player of the year award.
He is a product of Llandovery College and initially played for Milford
Haven Rugby Club. He represented Wales at all age groups including U16,
U17, U18, U19, U21 and Welsh Clubs XV. He played in the IRB Junior World
Championships in a pack containing Wales International Luke Charteris
and a back line including Moseley new No 10 signing Matt Jones. At Under
21 level he again played alongside Matt Jones, as well as Moseley scrum
half Jimmy Ireland.
Moseley director of Rugby Ian Smith said: “Nathan is a big, strong prop
who has a proven track record in top grade Welsh rugby. He will greatly
boost our options in a crucial part of our team.”
player profile
Also training with the squad are Ian
Culligan and Matt Williams. Culligan has spent a year out of
professional rugby despite having played for London Irish academy and as
part of the side that won the English Clubs Colts Knockout Cup in 2003.
The full back/wing scored twice in that final and was called into the
England Under 19 squad. He has since moved to the city to work as a
physiotherapist at Heartlands Hospital. 23-year-old Full Back Matt
Williams parted company with Pertemps Bees recently, having spent
last season in National Two with Stourbridge.
The back division is further strengthened
by the addition of Dan Norton to the Gloucester "dual registered"
group. Dan is a winger and utility back, who played for Gloucester in
the Middlesex 7s as well as Gloucester ‘A’ last season. A student at
Hartpury College and part of their BUSA winning side. He represented
England U18s in the 2006/07 season. He was also a key player in the
Hartpury College side that won the EDF Junior Vase last season trouncing
Billericay 72-12 in the final. Described by Allan Lewis (Hartpury Rugby
Academy Director and former Moseley coach) as having “outstanding pace
and is a very naturally gifted runner”.
12 July 2007-
Moseley sign Ireland U21 Ejike Uzoigwe
Moseley continue preparations for the 2007/08 season with the signing of
former Ireland U21 back row Ejike (Eji) Uzoigwe.
Eji impressed the club in seven appearances for the 2nd/Development in the
early part of last season when he scored four tries. He progressed from
Ulster based Campbell College to Ireland U21 whilst studying at Hartpury
College , and was part of the Hartpury side that won the BUSA (British
Universities Sports Association) Rugby Union Championship in April 2007. Eji
has also represented Gloucestershire and the "Scorpions" sevens team.
The former Hartpury College student spent last season playing for the
Gloucester 'A' team and in the second half of the season also gained some
valuable National League experience with Division 3 South side Cinderford.
The signing follows the ground breaking tie-up with Gloucester which
provides not only dual registered England Academy players such as Jack
Forster (England Saxons) and Karl Pryce (former Bradford Bulls) but also
provides coaching and technical expertise as the club prepares for the
2007/08 National League One season.

06 July 2007-
Welsh international Matthew Jones joins
Moseley squad
Moseley Rugby Club have recruited talented
Welsh International fly-half Matthew Jones to their squad for next season.
Matthew is 23 years old and gained a Wales Cap against Canada in June 2005,
as well as representing his country at U16, U19 and U 21 levels. He has
played for the Ospreys for the past four seasons, but missed much of last
season following a serious knee injury.
He will be linking up again at Moseley with
Wales U 21 scrum half Jimmy Ireland. When the pair played together for Wales
U21 they won the Grand Slam in 2004/05 with Jones scoring forty-nine points
in four games. Matthew said: “I am ambitious to further my rugby
rehabilitation and development and the opportunity of playing for a famous
club like Moseley in the competitive National One League plus the connection
with Gloucester is a massive opportunity to achieve both those aims. I’m
excited by the prospect and hope I can help Moseley in their continuing
revival.”
Moseley Coach Ian Smith said: “Matt has bags
of talent and we’re really looking forward to working with him. He could
make a big contribution in what promises to be an exciting season for our
squad and club. His excellent place kicking will also be a considerable
advantage to the side.” As well as training and playing for Moseley, Matthew
will also train at Gloucester under the new partnership arrangements.
Ospreys Director of Rugby, Kevin Hopkins, said: “Matthew is a player with
huge ability and potential but at this stage in his career he needs to play
at the highest possible level. Matthew will be within a fully professional
environment at Moseley and be able to play rugby each weekend, something
which Ospreys cannot guarantee him at present.” -

Moseley Matters reports
1ST XV - TRAINING AND SQUAD
The professional effect already in evidence
The effects of the Gloucester tie up are immediately being felt. Since June
1st two full time Glos conditioning coaches have been to Billesley to take
the thrice weekly (yes three times!!) gruelling pre season training for our
1st XV squad. Feedback from the players on this variation has been very
favourable with the more focused and general fitness regime being followed
already producing some benefits.
All twenty-six of our squad for next season have been there including club
captain Gareth Taylor who is progressively recovering from his long term
injury and also Moseley boy returnee and fellow scrum half James Ireland. To
name but a few these include such stalwarts as:
Neil Mason
James Rodwell
Ritchie Bignell
Mark Evans
Paul Arnold
Richard Stott
Ben Buxton
Neil Bayliss
Paul Coles
Adam Caves
Danny Hunter
Greg MacDonald
Andy Binns
Nathan Bressington
Ollie Winter
Further acquisitions are in the pipeline and will be announced when
appropriate although we are sure that Moseley people will not be
disappointed. As previously reported, the Gloucester connection will provide
access to probably a further fourteen players (that’s in addition to our
twenty six currently training - Ed). There will also be three loan players
for the season. All in all, the coaches are pleased with how the squad is
shaping up and the pre season training is going. Its going to be an
interesting season come September!

Moseley and Gloucester
in historic tie-up
Moseley and Gloucester Rugby clubs, two
traditional old rivals who

contested the first ever John Player Cup Final
in 1972 and who shared the Cup in 1982, have announced a ground breaking
joint arrangement for the next three years.
All Gloucester’s England Academy players will be dual registered to play for
both Gloucester and Moseley and will be available to play in National League
One next season. The agreement will also enable players, including those
with Premiership experience, to be loaned between the two clubs as
circumstances and individual playing pathways require and to keep players
match fit in a competitive environment. There will also be the exchange of
information about conditioning programmes, video analysis and training
techniques.

Dean Bick
Dean Bick has confirmed that he is accepting Blackheath’s excellent offer to
join the London club to be the first choice hooker. Bicky has been an
excellent club man for many years, and will be warmly remembered, not least
for his input into making "hooker" our top scorer in the championship season
2005/06. We wish him well with his new club and look forward to seeing him
back at Billesley soon.

Ireland returns home
Wales Under 21 International, Jimmy Ireland has signed for Moseley, the club
where he played his first rugby in the Under 7s. Having progressed through
the Moseley Mini & Junior section and then the Colts, Jimmy took up a place
at South Bank University in London and while there played for London Welsh.
His progress within the Welsh international teams took him back to Wales
where he played for Cross Keys before joining Newport.
He now returns to Moseley as an experienced scrum-half having played not
only for Wales U21 (including the 2005 Under 21 World Cup) but also for
Newport Gwent Dragons in the Magners League.
Jimmy played for Wales at Youth, Under 19 and Under 21. His father Dave, a
former Leicester and Moseley player, is Chairman of Moseley’s outstanding
Youth section. (photo

Player update
Extracts from John Beale's presentation to the awards dinner on May 5th
"Inevitably in the world of professional sport there will be changes for
next season. We will be saying goodbye to some players who are moving on for
various reasons to other Clubs, and although all have given well in service
of the Club I would like to mention three in particular who I believe have
served us outstandingly well.
Tom Skelding joined us at the beginning of last season, and has made
considerable progress this year, when he was given the job of running the
line-out in the absence of Stotty. He moves to Exeter where he will join
their full-time squad.
After a disappointing season by his own standards Jimmy Aston moves a mile
or two down the road to Pertemps Bees. Jimmy has been with us ever since
finishing at University, and although he has suffered his share of injuries,
he has given us 5 year’s sterling service.
Thirdly, Ollie Thomas is taking the long trip down the M5 to Cornish Pirates
where he will be a full-time player. It is well documented that Ollie has
grown up with the Club, playing as a mini, Colt and senior, and he feels
that it is now time for him to move on in his personal and professional
development. Ollie has been an outstandingly inventive player, and a
particularly excellent goalkicker. He has found the decision to leave the
Club a most difficult one to make, but he leaves with all of our best wishes
for his future development. I am sure that we will not have seen the last of
him in red and black hoops!
For these players and others who leave us, I give my wholehearted best
wishes for the season ahead.
As for next season, we are well advanced with our planning, and I am
confident that we will be a much more competitive squad next year."

Congratulations Ollie
Congratulations to Ollie Thomas whose 11
points in the London Welsh game took him past the 1,000 League points mark –
1,001 to be precise. A truly outstanding achievement. He has also this
season passed 100 League games for the club and will receive an award at the
Presentation Dinner.
Here are the details:
His 18 points against Waterloo last weekend carried him over the 200
penalties figure and to a total of 1019 league points.
Ollie made his debut as a scrum-half in the 2002/3 season making 10
appearances. To present, he has made a total of 110 appearances scoring 14
tries, 155 conversions, 203 penalties and 10 drop goals. Some record!

Congratulations Andy
Congratulations to Andy Binns who was
presented with the Lionel Moriaty Golden Boot after the London Welsh
game, having been voted player of the season in the supporters poll.
Andy was pushed all the way in a very close finish by runners up, James
Rodwell and Richie Bignell. Andy also scored Moseley's first try
en-route to a potentially vital bonus point.

Welcome back Andy Reay
Andy Reay returned to Moseley first XV for the Leeds Game, on loan for the
rest of the season from Bristol. Supporters will remember his role in the
championship winning season with eleven appearances and scoring two tries
for the cause. Andy was part of the England Under 21 team which claimed the
Under 21 Six Nations Championship Grand Slam in 2004 and he also competed in
the Under 21 World Championships that took place in Scotland during June
2004. He has won nine U21 caps for England and can play equally well at
inside and outside centre. This season he has made three starts for Bristol
1st XV - two in the Anglo-Welsh Cup and one in the Premiership.

Player Update
John Beale, Director of Rugby, writes, "Last week saw three new
players make their Billesley debuts. Nick Buckley from Manawatu in New
Zealand, Jamie Lennard (who some may have already seen in away matches at
Leeds and Exeter) and Uche Oduoza.
Nick Buckley – with us for a month initially but provided he demonstrates
his fitness and skill (and we are expecting him to do that!) he will stay
till the end of the season at least.
Jamie Lennard and Uche Oduoza are both on loan from Worcester. The call-back
period for both is 48 hours notice.
Brian Barnard still awaits his work permit, we should have more news soon.
The good news last weekend was that there were no further injuries and we
can look forward to a number of players returning very soon.
Nathan Bressington - may be available on Saturday.
Carl Colvin - still about two weeks off
Jimmy Aston - about a month away.
Tom Warren - should be training this week.
Neil Mason – aiming for the Coventry game
Neil Bayliss - may be available on Saturday
Gareth Taylor - about a month to go.
Paul Arnold - hamstring is still tight but he should be ok for Saturday
Josh Frape – no target date, taking it session by session."

joins the squad following news of James Aston's broken thumb. See profile

Moseley boost squad
with New Zealand centre
Moseley have strengthened their squad with the trial signing of New
Zealander Nick Buckley, who played against the British Lions in 2004. Nick -
a 25-year-old centre - came off the bench for Manawatu during the Lions
tour.
He has played age-grade rugby at all levels for Auckland, and worked his way
through the Auckland B side into their National Provincial Championship
(NPC) side at the end of the 2004 season. He then moved to Manawatu, playing
in the NPC as well as becoming a full-time Rugby Development Officer.
Unfortunately, he suffered a long-term back injury, from which he is now
fully recovered. To start his recuperation he has been playing this season
for College Old Boys, who are currently the top club side in Manawatu.
Moseley have signed Nick for one month, to check that his injury is now
fully healed, with a view to continuing his contract to the end of the
season.
John Beale, Moseley’s Director of Rugby, said: “Nick is a quality player and
will help strengthen our back line. We’re sure he will be a great addition
to the squad and we look forward to welcoming him and his wife and baby to
the club.” He added that Nick will be training with the squad this week and
will be available for selection for Saturday’s home match against Doncaster
Knights.

- Jamie Lennard
A new player, Jamie Lennard, played on the wing against Leeds. He is on loan
from Worcester. American Eagle winger, Brian Barnard, should be with us very
soon, being held up only by the wait for a work permit. Meanwhile we are
continuing to look to strengthen the squad.
News on the injury front is mixed. Nathan Bressington and Neil Bayliss
should be both in training this week, and after two bit-parts, Jimmy Aston
should be ready for his first start of the season next week-end.
On the negative side Carl Colvin is at least two weeks away from full
fitness, and in the second team match on Saturday Ollie Winter pulled a
hamstring which will probably keep him out for three or four weeks.
