National Colts Cup - Sponsored by Investabroad Properties
This weekend the Colts enter the National Colts Cup competition with a visit to
Worcester Students in Round 2. Moseley received a bye through round one, whilst
Worcester Students’ opponents (Lichfield) withdrew.
The competition is run by the East Midlands Rugby Union and was established in
their Centenary Year (1997/1998) when the inaugural competition involved 111
teams and was won by Moseley who beat Leeds 8-3 in the final at Franklin Gardens
(Northampton Saints RFC). This season’s entries exceeded 200.
The 1999/2000 season saw the introduction of the Plate competition for all those
clubs who play and lose in the rounds 1-3.
Moseley have a proud record in the competition including being runners up in
2004/05 (against Harlequins) and more recently losing at the semi final stage
against Bury St Edmunds in 2006/07. The full draw and results can be found at
http://www.emru.co.uk/
The competition is this year sponsored by Investabroad, a property investment
company run by former Moseley chairman Peter Veitch.
Investabroad Properties offer “a comprehensive and carefully selected portfolio
covering every kind of property in some 30 countries. With prices from as little
as £25,000 to several million, we really do have something for everyone, from

Rugby Lions 7-34 Moseley - “Colts Through to 4th Round
of National Cup”
Following their emphatic 34-7 win at Rugby Lions the Colts progress to the 4th
Round of National Cup - draw to be known on Wed 19th November. In an excellent
performance by the Colts following a series of poor results, saw them outpace
and out-skill their Rugby counterparts with five tries - three of which followed
some spectacular inter passing and running.
Tom Macguire opened the scoring with a try under the posts converted by Alex
Warner. Rugby then came back into it following Moseley’s Tom Austin being yellow
carded and brought the scores level following a converted try form a driving
maul.
Alex Warner kicked a penalty to make it 10-7 before Callum McBurnie went over in
the corner following some good Team play. Alex made a great extra two points
from the touchline to make it 17-7 at half-time.
The second half saw the Moseley backs rip apart the Rugby defence numerous times
and it was surprising that only 3 tries were scored - although there were two
others disallowed.
All three tries came from spectacular team play and electric running from a
really pacy three-quarter line. Josh Macpherson scored two tries and Dan
Rowlands the other to make it 34- 7 at the final whistle.
Apart from the mention of great back play, the pack played a major part with
some excellent driving play and they absolutely out scrummaged the Rugby eight.
A good team performance all round - well done guys! - Dave Ireland
Worcester 11 Moseley 33
“Worcester Colts, much depleted by injuries, played a strong Moseley Colts side
in almost perfect conditions on Saturday.
Within a minute Moseley's pacey backs had moved the ball to the wing who scored
in the corner with only a minute on the clock. The conversion was successful.
Five minutes later Moseley scored again, only for the try to be disallowed by
the referee for an inappropriate personal comment by a Moseley player.
Worcester replied with a pushover try on 15 minutes, Kyle Garner emerging with
the ball. The conversion was secured by Andy Wilks, but it was not long before
Moseley scored again following good backs play, the conversion being made on 24
minutes.
The Worcester forwards were more than a match for their Moseley counterparts,
and on 33 minutes they supplied good quick ball for Kieran Morris to latch onto
and score on the left. The conversion was missed. The half time score was
Worcester 12 - 14 Moseley.
Moseley used their strong backs in the second half to move the ball away from
the breakdown. They scored tries on 40, 50 and 60 minutes, only one conversion
being missed.
Worcester, to their credit, did not stop playing rugby and despite losing Josh
Roberts (thumb) and Kyle Garner (calf) came back for Richard Smith to go over in
the corner for an unconverted try just before the final whistle.
