essential part of the Twickenham Cup winning team. As Brian Dick said in the Birmingham
Post's Twickenham preview "Dual
registered Pasqualin has been a regular member of the Moseley squad in
his first season in senior rugby and has done sufficiently well to win a
call up for England Under 20s. The teenager's smooth service and pace
around the fringes complements Taylor's qualities and he has made 17
appearances this term".
Programme Profile - December 2008
Oh, to be young again, intelligent, talented and
ambitious with the world at one’s feet! Such is Jordi Pasqualin, the 18
year old England Academy player dual registered with Moseley and
Gloucester and the first of such players to appear in this series of
player profiles.
Jordi was born in Sheffield and brought up in Gloucestershire attending
the King’s School, Gloucester. Although Jordi and his mother's family
are English, his wider family embraces Spain, Italy and Sweden. When not
playing rugby at school he managed to earn three ‘A’s at A level (Maths,
Biology & Product Design) and obtained an offer from Bath University to
read Architecture.
Rugby, however, prevailed over academia and Jordi elected to become a
full time rugby professional in the Gloucester Academy. He started out
as a fly-half, playing for Gloucestershire U14 and U15, before moving to
scrum half As his career has developed he has played at scrum half for:
England U16s in 2005-06, England U18s in 2007-08, and Gloucester First
XV in 2008-09, as well as, more importantly, playing for Moseley!
Jordi,
who lives at home in Ashton under Hill, trains every day with the
Academy at Gloucester and with Moseley on Tuesday and Thursday evening.
In addition he is taking a part-time Degree course in Sports Business
Management at Hartpury College. All this does not leave him much time to
spend with his girl friend, Anna, who is still at Dean Close School,
Cheltenham.
When asked what he felt so far about the new Dual Registered system he
replied ‘brilliant; I am really enjoying my time at Moseley. It has a
fantastic club atmosphere and all the boys have made me feel welcome
from the beginning and I’m learning a lot from the more experienced
players and the excellent coaches in Smithy and Don’.
Most of his rugby career is still to come and a clear pathway, right up
to the full England squad, lies before him. How far along this path
Jordi will go will depend on his ambition and innate ability and the
guidance he receives from the coaches.
Young though he may be, Jordi has been giving some thought to the longer
term. He may move across from pure architecture to property development
and already has some ideas how he might use some of his increasing
earnings from rugby to make a start in this ultra competitive business.
We wish him well and will follow his progress with great interest.
