Programme Profile: Dan Lavery

This week the spotlight falls on Dan Lavery, one of the youngest members of the First XV Squad, who joined Moseley in the close season from Stourbridge as a Utility Back ( Fly Half/Full Back).

Dan, who was born in October 1987. He played for England U16s and shortly afterwards was awarded a rugby scholarship to Colstons School, Bristol. On leaving school he joined the Northampton Academy and in season 2006/07 played for both the Academy and A teams as well as for Ireland U19 (qualifying via his grandfather). He is 6 ft (1.78m) tall and weighs 14st 7lbs (92kg)

He joined Stourbridge in National League Two in August 2007 but unfortunate injuries (including a broken jaw in a match against Harrogate) restricted him to five league appearances in the 2007/08 season. He has now moved on to Billesley, where he is very welcome, and looks forward to an injury free season and opportunities to demonstrate his obvious potential in the First XV. He realises that competition for the all important fly half berth in Moseley’s first team will be intense, perhaps less so for the full back position, but at 21 he has time on his side

Dan, whose home is in Bedford, is taking a degree in Banking, Finance & Management at the University of Loughborough (in years to come his expertise may be of even more value to Moseley than his rugby skills!) His girlfriend, Tara, has already graduated and hopes to work in HR, possibly in London but hopes to see him in action at Billesley from time to time. She will be very welcome.

It is encouraging that the club has recruited a young player of such clear potential. With the prospect of National League One being reduced to twelve clubs (thus becoming even more competitive) as a forerunner to becoming the second tier of the Premiership Moseley will need high grade strength in depth in the years to come.
