Moseley made to work for win
By Roger Clarke, Birmingham Mail
MOSELEY are now within a bonus-point win of being crowned National Two champions after a hard-fought 34-29 win at Barking.
That could come in two weeks time in front of the Billesley Common faithful when Moseley play Launceston in their final home game of the season.
The score was much closer than the match itself as Moseley fell back into their bad old habits down in Essex allowing Barking to come back at them with two converted tries in the last eight minutes.
Director of rugby John Beale said: "It was the same old Moseley. We were well clear and they got two tries near the end to make it look much closer than it was.
"It gave us a few anxious moments but it did not last long. We were playing with the strongest wind we have faced all season and in the first half we did not really make the best use of it. Although we had a lead of 17 points we could see the wind would be worth 15."
Greg MacDonald was at fly-half in preference to Ollie Thomas, but Beale said that there was nothing to be read into the selection.
He said: "Greg played really well when he played against Orrell. Ollie came back because Greg was ill last week, but the coaches' view was that Greg had done nothing wrong and was unlucky to be off ill.
"Against Orrell we scored a lot of tries and you cannot read anything in to it other than Greg did not deserve to be left out."
On Saturday, Barking took the lead on 10 minutes when full-back Corrado Pilat went over.
Three minutes later wing Nathan Bressington had levelled and skipper Gareth Taylor, winger Carl Colvin and hooker Adam Caves all followed to grab a bonus point before half-time.
As in the first half Barking were first to show with winger Felise Ah-ling crossing, before Caves added his second and O'Leary followed with the try of the game. Ah-Ling then added his second and Peter Mahoney grabbed two bonus points with a last-minute try.
