French flier Nic leaves Mose sick
PLYMOUTH 48 MOSELEY 0 MOSELEY are staring relegation from National One in
the face after being heavily beaten by a rampant Plymouth Albion at a wind
The only consolation for Moseley was that relegation rivals Otley were well
beaten at Pertemps Bees.
Moseley will be glad to see the back of Plymouth Albion who beat them 50-5
earlier in the season.
Star of the show for Albion was flying French winger Nic Sestaret who set
two club records in the game.
Sestaret’s five tries were the most in a league match for Albion and his
current total of 26 touchdowns is another club record.
Moseley will be very disappointed, particularly as many of Albion’s tries
came from unforced errors.
Moseley also picked up a number of injuries which won’t help their cause in
their final three matches of the season.
Props Ben Buxton and Kevin Moran both departed with injuries, making them
doubtful for next weekend’s game against Nottingham.
Moseley started the game brightly and forced Albion deep into their 22 but a
dropped pass was seized upon by centre Regardt Van Eyk who put Sestaret
clear for a 70m sprint.
Van Eyk converted and then kicked a penalty which put Albion 10 points clear
in as many minutes.
Created Albion’s second try midway through the half was created by fly half
Ed Barnes and finished off by Sestaret with Van Eyk adding the extras. The
third unconverted home try was scored by hooker James Owen who finished off
a rolling maul.
On the half hour Moseley were awarded a penalty in front of the posts but
declined the simple kick at goal.
In search of a try Moseley opted for a scrum but the chance was lost with a
knock on near the Albion try line.
Shortly before the interval, Sestaret completed his hat trick finishing off
a Barnes break which gave Albion the bonus point. Van Eyk converted for a
29-0 interval lead. Moseley then matched Albion for 20 minutes after the
break but were unable to turn pressure into points.
Albion refused to buckle and finished off the game in style by scoring three
tries in the final 15 minutes. Another dropped Moseley pass gave Sestaret
chance to pick up the loose ball and sprint for his fourth try.
On 73 minutes Moseley offered another gift when a handling mistake was
gathered by Arran Cruickshanks who outpaced the defence. Van Eyk converted.
Sestaret completed a day he will remember and one Moseley will want to
forget when he was put clear on the overlap and scored his fifth. Van Eyk
concluded the scoring with the conversion. SCORERS: Plymouth Albion – tries:
Sestaret (5), Cruickshanks; conversions: Van Eyk (5); penalty: Van Eyk.
