Moseley Under 17 Colts End of Season Report 2008-9
Our Under 17 Colts had a very successful season winning the RFU Under 17
Midlands Shield versus Burton and Runners Up in the National Under 17
Shield Final losing 22 10 to Wimborne. Stuart Healey, Miles Goodwin and
Adrian Maynard also played for the Under 19 Colts. Congratulations to Louis

Under 17s 27 Bromsgrove 8 - North Midlands League
Our best performance of the year on the AWP saw us dominate the first
quarter with some excellent flowing rugby.
We had several scoring opportunities as a consequence of an excellent ball
supply the rampant forwards but the last pass just was not coming off, until
Mike and Louis combined for Chris Crutchley to finish off an excellent
winger’s try in the corner.
From the restart we again returned the kick with interest and after
Bromsgrove illegally killed what looked like another try scoring opportunity
Mikey out us 8-0 up.
An unfortunate ankle injury then disrupted the game and we had to ‘evict’
the under 16s (many thanks guys for that – much appreciated) from what
passed as our last playable pitch to continue.
The disruption seemed to damage us the most and while we went on to record a
13-3 half-time lead thanks to a great forward line out drive and score from
Stuart, Bromsgrove had come back into the game.
Playing up the hill and testing our fitness to the limit, Bromsgrove
continued to place us under pressure forcing us back into our own half
through some good kicking.
A fortuitous bounce from (what should have been) a crooked line out then
gave Bromsgrove a try in the corner and things looked like they would be
very tight in the closing quarter.
But we still were creating chances particularly from broken field play and
were unlucky not to be able to convert these to tries. When Louis finally
broke to the line and Stuart picked up and drove from the ensuing ruck the
20-8 lead looked a lot more comfortable.
Ado then finished a good day at the office with an individual break to score
under the posts to put us in the driving seat for next week’s final round of
Droitwich 7 Moseley 27 - 26th October 2008
Moseley gave a commanding performance on Sunday, with the forwards stamping
their authority on an experienced Droitwich pack. The most pleasing element
was the way the forwards did not get isolated over many phases and retained
the ball well to give the backs a solid platform from which to work.
Darius scored (at least) two tries and Ant one with one disputed between
The truth though is that the tries were all excellent team efforts with
Adrian producing some galloping runs with excellent back-up from all the
team. Mikey rounded off an excellent combined forwards and backs move after
a charging run from John Lynch and a popped pass from Aleem’s dancing feet.

Moseley 34 Camp Hill 6 - 12th October 2008
After a slow start where a new backline combination found difficulty in
capitalizing on ball won by the forwards who had the edge on their
counterparts, Moseley reached half time with a 3-6 deficit to Camp Hill.
Despite Camp Hill losing both props and having to move to uncontested scrums
Moseley’s forwards continued to assert their domination in the other phases.
When Adrian broke through for the first try it was no more than we deserved.
The steady rate of tries after that was testament to our growing assurance
on the ball and tries from Darius (following good forward maul work at the
lineout), Damon, Adrian again and Motty put the gloss on a composed second
Mikey added to his first penalty with three conversions and should have had
a fourth if I (touch judging) had been more assertive when a disconsolate
and beaten Camp Hill touch judge claimed he had missed the play! Okay Mikey,
the ref and the video confirm it was good, so we will enter it on the
