Birmingham Bulls at Billesley

Moseley is delighted to announce that local American Football side Birmingham Bulls will be playing their home games at Billesley over the summer.

Brian Ashton, who is both a Moseley and Bulls supporter, provides some background information on both the Bulls and the Grid Iron game n the UK.

Who are the Bulls?

The Bulls are one of the leading proponents of the sport in this country.  In over 20 years of playing the game the Bulls have been National Champions on a number of occasions and were the first British representative at the European Club Championships where they picked a bronze medal.

Recent history of the game

Gridiron in this country suffered quite badly a few years back when Budweiser pulled their sponsorship of the National League. This was followed by the NFL introducing professional teams to both London and Edinburgh. Strangely this only had a negative effect on the game as people initially decided to watch the big boys in the World League rather than watching their local team.

Interest then waned and people and money just deserted the game.

Thankfully however there appears to be a bit of a resurgence of interest both from people wanting to play the game and spectator interest. This can only be helped by the tie up between both Moseley and the Bulls and hopefully it is a relationship that will last.

As you will gather I have followed the sport in this country from its beginnings and have followed the Bulls all over the UK and Europe. I know that quite a few of the Moseley crowd have at one time or another ventured out to watch the Bulls and occasionally still do.

As the sport is played in our off season lets hope we can get a few bodies down to what is after all a cousin of our own game of Rugby. The Bulls intend to play four of their five regular season games at Billesley the first having to be played at Moor Lane Sports Ground due to our pitch being reseeded after the season finishes.
