Greater Birmingham 7s & Beer Festival

Saturday 16th May - @ Billesley Common

Only two places now remain to compete in the 4th annual Greater Birmingham 7s Tournament at Moseley Rugby Club on Billesley Common, Birmingham on Saturday 16th May.

Sixteen teams have already committed to this popular and expanding tournament which is designed primarily as an opportunity for amateur rugby players in the Greater Birmingham area to play some enjoyable 7s rugby.

Entries however are welcome from clubs and composite or “themed” teams from both within or without this area. It is intended to be an enjoyable end of season event after a long hard winter and a celebration of all that is good about rugby.

While a few semi pro players would be welcome, any entry containing too many pros will be “encouraged” to dilute their squad to ensure there are competitive matches throughout the tournament.

A pool format will guarantee a minimum of three games for each entry, with winners and runners-up proceeding in the Cup and Plate competitions. Finals will be played on Moseley’s 1st XV showcase pitch.

Spectators are warmly welcomed with a full array of “refreshments” available throughout the day including award winning catering as well as beer tents and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages.

The only charge is an entry fee to cover the organisers’ administrative costs. However this is only £60 per team which for a suggested squad of 12 players works out at a mere £5 per head!

As an added attraction for supporters and spectators a selection of “real ale” beers are being brought in and will be on sale throughout the day.

Teams are invited to compete in the 3rd annual Greater Birmingham 7s In Memory of Aaron Boyce at Moseley Rugby Club on Billesley Common, Birmingham on Saturday 16th May.

WHO’S IT FOR?

This popular and expanding tournament is designed primarily as an opportunity for amateur rugby players in the Greater Birmingham area to play some enjoyable 7’s rugby. However entries from clubs and composite or “themed” teams from both within or without this area are also encouraged to enter. It is intended to be an enjoyable end of season event after a long hard winter and a celebration of all that is good about rugby.

While a few semi pro players would be welcome, any entry containing too many pros will be “encouraged” to dilute their squad to ensure there are competitive matches throughout the tournament.

Teams may consist of specific club sides (such as the many excellent ones at all levels in Greater Birmingham) or special selections or representative sides from within or outwith the Birmingham area e.g. “Nottingham Medics”

The tournament organisers would therefore be appreciative if the tournament could be supported by an entry from every club in Greater Birmingham (either as a club, composite or “themed”) as it is being organised primarily for their benefit, as well as teams from outside the region. Interest has already been expressed from amateur sides in France, Germany and Italy.

Sections within clubs are also encouraged to put in a side however all players MUST be 18 years old on the date of the tournament.

FORMAT

The format will be for between 20 or 24 teams who will play in smaller pools of clubs thereby ensuring a minimum number of games for each entry. The winners and runners up of each pool will then proceed to Plate and Cup finals which will be played on Moseley’s 1st XV pitch.

The clubhouse, with the full array of “refreshments”, will be available throughout the day to cater for both players and supporters.

COST

The only charge is an entry fee to cover the organisers’ administrative costs. However this is only £60 per team which for a suggested squad of 12 players works out at a mere £5 per head!

To facilitate organisation a cheque for the full amount must be received by Thurs 16th April to guarantee places. It should be appreciated that these fees cannot be refunded to any team which then does not compete in the tournament.

Cheques should be made payable to Moseley Rugby Ltd and posted to the address below for the attention of Tony Kenny. Credit Card payments will be accepted during office hours by calling the Moseley Rugby Club office as below.

Entry forms and further information available are available from www.moseleyrugby.co.uk or by Emailing to info@moseleyrugby.co.uk .
