2001/02: Zurich Premiership.

  12 clubs in the top tier.

Relegation: One club down, however, there was no relegation as National League 1 champions Rotherham did not meet Premiership ground criteria.

Champions: Gloucester (decided after play-offs between the top eight clubs).

Points were awarded as follows:
 4 points awarded for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for scoring 4 tries or more and 1 point for losing by 7 or less points.

Relegated: Henleyand Bracknell.

Promoted from National League 2: Orrell and Plymouth Albion.
