Moseley Ladies won the 4th annual Rugby4Heroes 10's

tournament in spectacular style on Saturday.

21st May 2012

Wins over Bridgnorth (25-0), Buckingham Swans (24-0) and Old Leamingtonians 'Tena' Ladies (17-14) in the pool stage, saw Moseley Ladies progress to the semi finals where they were to come up against Bletchley Ladies. A superb 42-5 win took the team through to the final, where they once again faced the Tena Ladies of Old Leams. Unlike the earlier meeting between the two teams, the result of this game was never in doubt as Moseley ran out 35-5 winners.

A hugeley satisfying day which saw 24 tries scored by the winners, and only 4 conceded.

Top try scorer in the tournament was Moseley's own Nicola 'Brocket' Sykes with 11 tries. Emma Shields was close behind with 7.

Squad : Sarah Robinson (capt), Steph Warner, Michell Gwynne, Katherine Mahon, Rachel Fenton, Amii Attard, Olly Gough, Pascale Holden, Hannah Bussey, Nicola Sykes, Kerianne Crandall, Emma Shields.

MPA boosts Moseley Women’s finances

The Moseley Women’s squad has received a much needed financial boost, thanks to the Moseley Players Association (“MPA”).

The plight of the Women’s section, which has had to survive without a sponsor for the last two seasons, was highlighted in Moseley Matters a few weeks ago. The matter was brought up at the next MPA committee meeting, when all present agreed that financial help should be provided, both by the MPA itself and by the 300 Club, which the MPA committee manages.

The result was that, cheques totalling £1,000 were handed over to the women’s section - being £500 from each of the two organisations.

Women’s Section an important part of Moseley

Commenting on the donation, MPA Chairman Peter Veitch said “We are very pleased to be able to provide some financial assistance to the Women’s Section, which is an important and integral part of the Moseley organisation.

“Our committee believes that it has a responsibility to provide this one off assistance so that the section can plan for next season with confidence and without the distraction of worrying about its future viability or even survival.

“We are also custodians of the funds raised by the 300 Club and feel that the donation from the club is entirely consistent with the objectives of helping to finance rugby development at Moseley.

Women now free to prepare for next season

On behalf of MWRFC, Steph Warner said “We are extremely grateful to the Players Association for its financial assistance, which has taken the pressure off us and leaves us free to concentrate on our preparations for next season.

We know that we have an obligation to continue our efforts to obtain our own funding through sponsors and other sources, but it is very comforting to know that the MPA will be keeping an eye on our finances and will not rule out further help if all else fails.

“Although there have been times during the season when we have really struggled with a shortage of players, as well as the financial problems, we now have the basis of a strong squad and are able to look ahead to the season with more confidence than has been the case for some time.

“I must also thank our coach Braggy (Richard Bragg), who has stuck with us throughout last season without any financial reward and is to continue as coach for the next one, when, with this help from the MPA and our own funding efforts, we intend to ensure that he is properly remunerated for his invaluable help, dedication and expertise.”

MWRFC is still seeking a main sponsor or a number of smaller sponsors for next season. Any individual, company or organisation interested in having details of the available packages should contact Steph Warner on 07815 578769 or stephwarner2005@hotmail.co.uk.

Bouncebackability !!

1st November 2011

Moseley Ladies bounce back from a narrow defeat at Lichfield 2nds the previous week, to record a well earned victory over Olney 17-15.

Within 20 minutes of the kick off, Mose found themselves 12-0 down and facing a real struggle to get anything from the game. Emma Shields grabbbed a superb solo try, duly converted by Aimee Cottingham shortly before Olney slotted a penalty to extend their lead to 15-7. With 38 on the clock, Anna Mullin broke through centrefield to give the home team a further 5 points taking it to 15-12 at half time. Whilst the second half produced some good rugby, it wasn't until the 78th minute when Emma Shields again escaped the defense to score again and secure victory. Final score Moseley Ladies 17 Olney Ladies 15.

Tries : Emma Shields x2, Anna Mullin
Convs : Aimee Cottingham

Forward Of The Match : Olly Gough
Back Of The Match : Emma Shields

New Caps : Emily Hardwicke

2 New Caps And Honours Even

2nd October 2011

Despite showing good signs of improvement from the previous game, Moseley only come away with a draw.

This sunday was a case of honours even. Moseley ground out a 17-17 draw with a determined Stoneygate side. There was very little to separate the sides, with the 27 degree bizarre October weather taking its toll on all players.

Both sides will feel they could have won the game, but in reality, the draw was probably a fair result on the day.

Moseley Ladies still have much to work on, but progress was evident, and this is a team that will undoubtedly develop and gel as the season progresses.

Forward of the match went to Deli, with the backs honour going to Robbo.

Points came from Frank (2 tries), Emma (1 try) and KJ (1 conversion)

Finally, a welcome to another two debutants this week, Fran Calnan who has joined us from Henley Ladies, and Becky Weighman who joins from Bristol Ladies
