Moseley22 Esher 13

Moseley got back to winning ways at a cold and windy Billesley with a well-deserved victory against Esher.

Playing with the wind in the first half they had the majority of the possession but turned round just 14-7 up, thanks to tries by Bressington and Binns, converted by Vasey. At least two more certain-looking tries went begging when the ball was fumbled with the line at their mercy. In fairness, frozen hands may have contributed.

Esher’s try came from a lapse in Moseley’s defence which opened up like the Red Sea, and only a last-ditch tackle by winger Norton prevented a second.

Esher were a well organised outfit and looked much more threatening in the second half with the elements in their favour. They scored two penalties to peg back Moseley’s lead to a single point, and the home side had to defend their lead with prop Sigley yellow-carded.

A penalty by Vasey gave a bit of breathing space and Bressington made certain of the win with a late second try that also deprived Esher of a losing bonus point.

Moseley will hope to take something from next week’s match at Sedgley Park who are in the lower regions of the table, before the visit of Doncaster a week later.
