Moseley 36 Newbury 9
Hat-trick hero James Rodwell helped in-form Moseley to a convincing 36-9 win over Newbury. The talented No 8 - fresh from helping the England sevens team to runner-up spot in Dubai and plate winners in South Africa - bagged a try in the first half and a brace in the second. For his third in the last minute Rodwell ran almost the whole length of the pitch to go over, despite several pursuers.

A try from Henry Trinder, plus a penalty try, delivered Moseley the added Christmas present of a bonus try point to send the Billesley crowd home in good cheer. The win boosted Moseley to ninth in the table. Newbury stuck at their task, but their only reward was three penalties from Ben Stevenson. The visitors were not helped by having skipper Mark Lee sin-binned in the first-half, but they failed to take advantage when the Mose were reduced to 14, Nathan Bressington seeing yellow.

Moseley travel on Friday to Coventry to revive the traditional Boxing Day fixture last played in 1992. A win would keep them above their local rivals in the table.
