Moseley somehow managed to lose a match they should really have won. but
for careless mistakes that gifted two tries. They attacked strongly
early on, only for Esher to intercept a loose pass that allowed George
Lowe to run the length of the field and score under the posts. Moseley
lock Ally Muldowney finished off a slick move to stretch over for a
converted try, but three penalties left the Surrey side 16-7 ahead at
Early in the second half Moseley reduced the lead to two points when
fly-half Tristan Roberts jinked through for a solo try, converted by
Ollie Thomas. Moseley’s pack were now well on top and backed by a strong
wind they pounded the Esher line for 20 minutes, but still came away
with nothing. At last, with a few minutes to go, Ollie Thomas’s
long range penalty edged Moseley ahead 17-16. The score looked to have
secured Moseley a vital win until a loose clearance with three minutes
to go allowed Esher to surge forward and score the winning try.
Unlike the previous week, there was to be no final throw of the dice and
Moseley trooped dejectedly from the pitch with just a losing bonus
The result leaves Moseley in eleventh place which would secure a place
in next season’s Championship, but they are now only a point ahead of
Esher whose form has improved dramatically in recent weeks. Next week
Moseley are at home to Sedgley Park and will hope to beat the Manchester
outfit who lie in 14th place.
Late defeat at Esher is new body blow for Moseley
