An injury-ravaged Moseley, shorn of the services of half a dozen first choice players, made heavy weather at times in beating an energetic and spirited Aberavon side.
Moseley had slightly the better of the early interchanges, and in the 23rd minute took a deserved lead, when, after an excellent break the ball swept forwards 60 metres for a try by the effervescent Ed Styles, converted by Ollie Thomas.
Wizards gradually pulled themselves back into the game, and after almost scoring from a scrum deep inside Moseley territory, and with Moseley’s defence lying too flat, wing Ian Moore gathered from a kick ahead and scored a try under the posts, with James Jones converting to level the scores. After then spurning a kick in front of the posts Aberavon then took a second chance through Jones to take a narrow lead going in at half-time.
Moseley started the second half brightly and after a period of heavy pressure Styles scored his second try on 50 minutes, Thomas again converting.
Again Wizards came back strongly, but Moseley defended stoutly, and, following a scrum from a turn-over, Carter made a strong run on the end of an orthodox back move to score Moseley’s third try in the right hand corner. Thomas again added the extras, as he did to the last try scored by Ryan de la Harpe on the end of strong Moseley forward pressure.
