Moseley Colts 44 Old Coventrians/ Coventry Colts 0 - 20th October 2007
Injuries, illness and unavailability meant a much-changed team took the field from the one which won at Market Bosworth two weeks ago but Moseley Colts comfortably won through to the third round of the National Cup where they will meet either Willenhall or Walsall .
Moseley took some time to get into their stride but after overcoming some early defensive resistance they cut loose, scoring 8 tries of which 2 were converted. In some respects, the Old Coventrian/Coventry coalition got off somewhat lightly as better handling and decision making by the home side could have seen a much wider margin in the score line.
Amongst the many positives though were try-scoring debuts for two of our under 17 colts – Dan Micklewright and Curtis Gilbert - the continuing improvement and extra dimension offered by Clark Hands at inside centre, a first start of the season for Jon Betty, who ran some great angles and a creative performance at fly half by Jim Oliver, who all revelled in the service provided by scrum half Stuart Doust; which combined with some abrasive performances in the front eight, notably from Ben Pons, Patrick Hughes and James Weaver led to a fairly satisfactory afternoon’s work out on the Common.
Next weekend brings a sterner challenge as we take on the might of the Leicester Tigers Academy (3pm Billesley main pitch) in one of our biggest games of the season – all support welcome.
