Senior Academy Match Report V Stourbridge (Home) Sat 01/09/2007

Moseley 52 Stourbridge 0 - 1st September 2007

Moseley Colts kicked off their season in impressive style (but not as sharp as the Lee Nixon hair cut) on Saturday by putting fifty-two unanswered points on local rivals Stourbridge.

The home team were very composed in front of a large crowd on the first team pitch at Billesley Common. Moseley looked very good in the opening period and in a repeat of last week, last season’s leading try scorer Sam ‘crazy legs’ Yarwood scored first. Did anyone ask Sam how to call for a ‘mark’?

All the Colts played well but Ben ‘I’m hard’ Pons did his best Lewis Moody impression and was rewarded with a hat trick of tries as man of the match. The second half was a slightly better performance as the forwards and backs continued to attack freely but gave the impression they were stuck in third gear.

Tries came from Pons, Crazy Legs, Jamie Oliver and full back Jack Richards in this half and Cairney-Withers wrapped the game up as the ref blew up early with the Colts passing fifty points.

On the whole a very promising start to the season for the Moseley Colts, as they looked a very fit and organised side. Every player made a big contribution to the performance and we go into next week looking to improve intensity levels and communication. The players need to continue with their hard work on the training ground and make sure they are clinical in everything they do. Roll on Dudley K!

Special mention goes to Ciaran Murphy, Stuart Doust, Mark Deaville and Peter Hytter for their first home games in a Moseley shirt.
