Burton 5  Moseley 53 - 17th Oct 09

A strong mobile Moseley Colts team travelled to play Burton Colts on Peel Croft.

They found a stern opposition from the Crofters who came close to scoring inside the first ten minutes. But all Burton’s early efforts were in vain as they failed to get the score board ticking over.

Poor defensive work by Burton saw Moseley break through in midfield to score three first half tries. But when Moseley upped their work rate in the second half Burton were just not able to stem the flow of tries as the visitors piled on the pressure and points with six more tries.

However, just as full time beckoned Burton initiated a fine move with Jim Litchfield seizing the ball to set up a ruck and good quick ball saw Henry Titley, deputising at scrum-half after injury, launch his back-line from near the halfway mark. Ben Marshall, Nathan Wrathall, Sam Heptonstall and Tom Sharratt all showed some fine touches and great hands to send Matt Boden racing in for a fine, albeit consolation, try in the corner. This final score was just desserts for the manner in which Burton kept on going until the final whistle and never allowed themselves to drop their heads despite the onerous task they faced.

Mose tries were scored by Dan Barrett (2), Lewis Woodfield (2), Greg Smith (2), Dan West, Will Rae and Umar Javed. 4 were converted by Scott Harman. 1st tries for colts for Lewis, Will and Umar.

As the score might suggest, this was a much improved performance by Moseley Colts who, at last, started to play like we suspect they can. Not a fault-free performance but certainly very encouraging for the rest of the season if this level is maintained and built upon.
