MOSELEY COLTS AT OXFORD 10s
Moseley topped their qualifying group by beating Oxford Harlequins 12 – 10; Rugby Lions 33 – 12; and drawing with Henley 19 – 19, despite never really performing to full potential. Always dangerous going forward where Scott Harman and Mike Whettell showed great promise as an attacking midfield combination, all too often Moseley Colts suffered from defensive naivety and a lack of cohesion in the outside backs. Our forwards, with Lewis Woodfield and Adrian Maynard prominent, tried hard but looked a yard off the pace required to properly compete at this level.
A disappointing day overall was ended when Moseley Colts were defeated 22-29, at the semi final stage, by Worcester Wanderers Colts in a game which could, and should, have been won.
The competition was won by a very strong Bedford Colts, who defeated a gallant Worcester team (who had only bought 12 players with them) in the final by a cricket score. Having earlier dispatched Bicester and Worcester in the group stages by equally comfortable margins, Bedford have set the benchmark for the rest of us to work towards if we are to compete effectively in this year’s National Colts Cup.
