Moseley Colts End of Season Report 2008-9
Dave Ireland is stepping down after eight years as Chairman of Y&D, but will continue to have involvement in various rugby roles. At the AGM he was thanked for his great contribution over many years and particularly in the early 2000s when the club’s own Colts kept the club going.
The U-19 Colts had a good season, improving throughout and losing only once after Christmas. Unfortunately this had been to Hinckley in the quarter-finals of the National Colts Cup when the team underperformed. Hinckley had gone on to win the cup
There had been some outstanding results – beating Loughborough Students away, and three times beating their Worcester counterparts and scoring more than 100 points in the process.
The U-17 Colts also won the final of the National Junior Colts Cup.
Under 19 Colts
After a fairly indifferent start to the season our Under 19 Colts made a great improvement in the second half, only losing once - which unfortunately was our National Colts Cup Quarter Final at Hinckley. Hinckley went on to win the National Colts Final.
Probably our best result was in the week prior to the Hinckley match when the Colts beat Loughborough Freshers (a RFU Academy Team) away 29-24. Another pleasing statistic of this season was the three resounding victories over Worcester Colts amassing 118 points, and finishing with a 33-17 win in the North Midlands Colts Cup Final.
The Easter tour to Parma, Italy was a thoroughly enjoyable success all the more so due to a 31 – 5 victory versus an Emiliani Reggio Regional Select XV.
Colts captain Callum MacBurnie was a consistent performer throughout the season, and also captained North Midlands Under 20s. Representative honours with North Midlands Under 20s and Under 19s were won by Aaron Smith, Dan West, Jamie Bates, John Ball, Tim Hardwick, Dan Rowlands, Alex Warner, Nathan Walmsley, Dan Micklewright, Tom Austin, Tom MacGuire, Kieran MacMahon and James Weaver.
Our thanks go to Coaches Tim Hardwick and Alex Powell, Team Manager Simon Bartlett, Physios Andy Middlebrook and Nicola Booth. Much gratitude goes to Leah Warner for her fund raising efforts which enabled our players undertake the Easter Tour at a greatly reduced price as well as subsidising the transport cost of the section.
In addition to Leah’s efforts the Colts section is supported financially by the Moseley Players Association & the Moseley 300 Club. This past season we were also given generous donations by James Morris Adams and the Kabbabish Restaurant.

Under 17 Colts
Our Under 17 Colts had a very successful season winning the RFU Under 17 Midlands Shield beating Burton in the final. They followed this by reaching the National Under 17 Shield Final eventually losing 22-10 to Wimborne (Dorset).
Congratulations to Louis Padian on winning his England Under 18 Cap.
Stuart Healey, Miles Goodwin and Adrian Maynard played for the Under 19 Colts. Many of this squad will move forward to play in 2009-10 Under 19 Colts XV.
Our thanks and congratulations go to Coaches, Cillian Ryan and Geraint Lewis and Team Manger John Bellenger.
