Moseley 22 Bridgnorth 8 - 9th December 2007

Its official - Bridgnorth Under 17’s are the “dark horses” of League One. Whilst all the other teams in the league have regularly played each other since they were minis, I cannot recall playing a match against Bridgnorth until they beat in us in the Northern league earlier this season. In fact they had lost only one game in their last eight matches and we therefore knew we had to play well to get a result.
Due to the poor weather conditions the match took place on the club’s new All Weather Pitch which was to suit our game plan. Moseley dominated the first quarter with Ed Mott scoring a well worked try out wide for a 5-0 lead. Bridgnorth then took control using their line out to good effect along with driving mauls which resulted in an equalising try to make 5-5 at half time.
The second half saw Moseley regain control although Bridgnorth took the lead with a penalty to make 5-8. The lads pressed hard with Bridgnorth having to defend on their own line before conceding a penalty which Curtis Gilbert took advantage of by powering over for a converted try to make 12-8.
Moseley then started to move the ball wide and the backs were causing Bridgnorth to make last gasp tackles before Tom Swannick scored to make it 17-8. In the last minute Danny Micklewright was tackled just short of the line only to have Matt Wright at hand to pick and score to make the final score 22-5.
This was a very hard game and the last four games have shown that there are no easy matches in this league. The win takes Moseley to second in the table behind Worcester. - Richard Swannick
